About Equinox
15th-17th May 2009, on Singapore Arts Festival 2009 Opening Pre-show at Marina Barrage, ZingO brought to Singapore community a new choreograph: "Equinox - Half of Day and Night". Equinox is the time when the day and the night are of equal length. With this we have designed a huge display of drum formation consists of 2 semi-spheres. The inner is on high racks to represent "day"; while the outer is on the usual flat drum stands to represent "night".
With other compositions such as "Transformation", "Freedom" and "Endeavour", there will be plenty of formation changes, choreographs, and drum beats of different moods. All compositions (including the design of the costumes and masks) are original. Like always, the performance is traditional with plenty of modern twists.
The concept of the performance is to share with people that our drums are related to environment and astronomy (2200 years of history), that evolved from being ceremonial to become a performing art; ZingO encourage ourselves to keep pursuing on excellence by enduring hardship; and that happiness is a state of mind.
